SayfarerTerms of Service
These terms are an agreement between you and Concise Web Design, United Kingdom ("we", "us"), for the use of the Sayfarer app and website ("Sayfarer"). By installing or using Sayfarer you accept them. If you do not agree, please do not use Sayfarer.
1. What Sayfarer is
Sayfarer is a translation and travel companion app. It converts speech, text and images between languages, provides phrasebooks, cultural information, emergency numbers, currency conversion and language-learning tools. It is a convenience tool, not a professional translation, legal, medical or emergency service.
2. Licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Sayfarer on devices you own or control, for your own use, in accordance with these terms and the rules of the app store you obtained it from. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, rent, reverse-engineer or create derivative works of Sayfarer except where the law allows it or where the source code is made available to you under a separate licence.
3. Your Google API key and third-party services
- AI features run on Google's Gemini API using an API key you create in your own Google account. Your use of that key is governed by Google's Gemini API Terms of Service and Google's privacy policy, including any usage limits and charges you may enable there.
- You are responsible for keeping your key confidential and for any usage made with it. Sayfarer stores it only on your device.
- Offline translation packs are provided by Google ML Kit; exchange rates by open.er-api.com. We do not control these services and they may change or stop without notice.
4. Accuracy, and what Sayfarer must not be relied on for
Machine translation, speech recognition and AI-generated guidance can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. You must use your own judgement and verify anything important.
- Emergencies. Emergency numbers and SOS phrases are provided as a convenience from public sources. Always confirm the correct number locally. Sayfarer does not place calls automatically and is not a substitute for emergency services.
- Medical, legal, financial and safety matters. Do not rely on Sayfarer for diagnoses, prescriptions, allergy safety, legal advice, contracts, currency transactions or travel safety decisions. Dietary warnings in menu translation are best-effort and can miss ingredients.
- Cultural information is general and may not reflect every region or situation.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Sayfarer to break the law, to infringe others' rights, to harass or harm anyone, to translate or generate content that is illegal where you are, or to interfere with the services Sayfarer relies on. You are responsible for content you submit, including that you have the right to record or photograph it.
6. Your content
You keep all rights to what you say, type, photograph or save. Sayfarer does not transmit your content to us. Content sent to Google is handled under Google's terms as described in our Privacy Policy.
7. Availability and changes
We may update, change or discontinue Sayfarer or any feature at any time. Updates may be required for continued use. Features that depend on third-party services may stop working if those services change.
8. No warranty
Sayfarer is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded by law.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use Sayfarer, including reliance on any translation or information it provides. Our total liability for any claim relating to Sayfarer is limited to the amount you paid for it, which is nothing. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.
10. Termination
You can stop using Sayfarer at any time by uninstalling it. We may terminate your licence if you breach these terms. Sections 4, 6, 8, 9 and 12 survive termination.
11. Trader information
Sayfarer is published by Concise Web Design, a UK business. Contact: admin@concise.design, website concise.design. Sayfarer is free and no purchases are offered within the app.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that consumers resident elsewhere in the UK or the EU keep the protection of mandatory local law and may bring claims in their local courts.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms by publishing a new version here with a new effective date. Continued use after a change means you accept the new terms.
